Question by Don D: Where can I buy a cheap, plain, pendant light?
I picked up a cute kid’s shade at IKEA, but did not buy the pendant light that they had (for $ 4) since it had an ordinary plug for a wall outlet. I want something that mounts to the ceiling to replace an existing fixture. Oddly, I can’t seem to find anyone who sales a plain, ordinary, white pendant light. Lots of designer stuff is available, with fancy gold chains and decorative shades, for $ 50 and up. I just want a plain round disk to mount to the ceiling, a clean white cord hanging down, and a fixture on the end that will take my shade and a 100 watt bulb. Does anyone know of any store, online or retail, who carries such an obvious product?

Lowes and Home Depot have inexpensive pendants.
Also check the departments for clearance items.
The replacement white shade is inexpensive if you find a fixture.
Outlet style wiring doesn’t preclude you from making the connection to an existing fixture; the wires are of the same type.

Go to a discount store, like Wal-mart, or Target. If you don’t care about the style, that’s the way to go. You could also look through second-hand stores, in the classified ads or at garage sales. Just makes sure it’s up to code.
For online stuff, try Overstock.com, or if you want to go vintage (sounds like a 50′s style light!), try eBay or some other auction site.
